I'm a slacker....officially

When I started this blog I thought "yes, I can think of stuff to write about regularly." I'm either terribly wrong or just terribly lazy. I think it's a combination of both to be honest. I'd rather be blogging about things relevant to ColdFusion and programming, but I can never think of anything that first of all hasn't been done before, and second would be relevant to a wide variety of uses and not just the specific task I have at hand. How do you guys do it??? Am I a good programmer? I'd like to think so. Am I an experienced programmer. Not exactly. I really wish I had something more to share with the community. Hopefully I'll figure it out eventually.

On to a more personal topic. I bought a new truck today! It's not "new" new, but it's new to me. It's a 2005 Chevy Colorado in metallic orange. Hopefully this one will stay looking nice, unlike my last car. I had it less than a year and the clear coat peeled off the top and trunk lid. It looked like garbage when I traded it in. I used to wash it every weekend, summer and winter and do all the maintenance on time. After the paint started to fall apart, I stopped caring. Hopefully this truck will be the one I can take care of and it will reward me with many years of good looks and reliability.

DevLano's Gravatar Just blog about what is common knowledge to you, cause there are far more people that don't know what you know then DO know. :)

Jeff Chastain's Gravatar The thing I have told other developers before who have the same question is that it does not matter how advanced you think you are because there is always somebody else one step behind you on the learning curve. So, just because the topic may seem rather obvious to you, I bet it wasn't a year ago and is probably not to somebody else sitting where you were a year ago.

ike's Gravatar I was gonna say that if you read the cfjedi blog much, you might realize that a lot of the things Ray Camden blogs are really simple things. As a matter of fact, they're often far simpler than I would generally think to blog about - or at least I perceive them as being far simpler. But the reality is that people are getting value out of them. That's not a criticism either of Ray or of the people reading his blog by any stretch of the imagination. Every expert has to start somewhere. Even Sean Corfield was a noob once upon a time. (I'd have said I, but didn't want to seem egotistical.) :P

Also I've had several people post things on my blog where either I was confused about something and misrepresented it or they noticed that I was doing something "the long way around" and posted some information about a CF feature that I hadn't noticed that made my life a lot easier. So I'm really grateful to the people who read my blogs for helping me learn as well. :)

On the truck... Do you have a covered parking garage? I've heard that simple sunlight can have a significant impact on the paint over time. Not sure if that's what happened to your last truck, just passing along what I've heard. If that's the case and you don't have a covered garage, you might consider tarping it when it's parked. :)

Jim's Gravatar Thanks for the words of advice. Sometimes I am my own worst critic. As for the paint on my last car, it was a factory defect that Mitsubishi refused to take care of. Ask anyone who owned a 99-02 black Galant or Eclipse that came out of the NJ plant and they'll tell you. It was baaaaaad.

Dan Parker's Gravatar Welcome to the slacker club, Jimbo.....I find that I have less and less time to read blogs I'm subscribed to let alone keeping mine current....some day we'll be rich from great ideas and we can blog all day....in the Caribbean, with a Corona next to the keyboard :-)

Nice truck!
